‘Taking care of yourself’, is not just having a ‘mani-pedi’ (although, they are crucial-:) but to make sure that you don’t join, or ask to be joined in Self-Condemnation. In my incident with the friend who I was ten minutes late for and notified him about it, and he reacted by calling me “irresponsible” and not waiting for me, I had a choice to make. I could condemn myself for being irresponsible and abandon myself, in anticipation that my friend may abandon me and never speak to me again, or, I could take care of myself, partner my care with the breath, and follow my MOJOE – joy, oxygen & ease.
In choosing the later, I focused open-hearted attention on myself, and thus exercised real responsibility – the ability to respond to knee-jerk-reactions. At the end of the day, I trust my JOE – joy, oxygen & ease more than I trust my MO – misery & oppression. But it’s up to me to transform MO 2 JOE, and follow my MOJOE. It’s up to me to wake up to situations in life where I am unconsciously joining or asking to be joined in self-condemnation. Condemnation is a losing situation. It ends like that: One finger pointing at you, and three fingers point back at myself.
