(I wonder if my bulldog friend Mary-Lou, is critical of her protruding teeth?)
At a yoga class the other day, my teacher asked me how did I treat myself as we were doing a pose that exposed my belly. The question went to my heart and reminded me to treat myself with compassion, as I was unconsciously criticizing and judging my belly. I felt safe enough to share it with my teacher who said – “you have a beautiful belly, treat it kindly” as she pointed at her own imperfect belly -:). There was something transforming about that question, reminding me to treat myself like a friend & lover rather than like a mean critique. It also reminded me of an anonymous poem I recorded years ago called “Chance or choice”, about loving an imperfect person – perfectly.
