When I was exposed to the concept of Self-Love some thirty years ago, I took to it immediately. It was at the time of the AIDS crisis, and those of us who were of a high risk did anything imaginable to escape the prospective of a horrible death of this horrific disease, including looking into a mirror and saying “I love & accept myself exactly as I am.” The only problem with that was that I didn’t spell out nor acknowledge the unlovable & the unacceptable fear & shame under this positive statement. It took thirty more years to realize that healing & love don’t just happen. That, we have something to do with it – by design, meaning that we have to get out of denial, and face & embrace the things we are most afraid & ashamed of. Love & healing like the breath, needs to be allowed. It needs to be invited in. We need to make room for it. Its a conscious process not an accident. Open your heart and connect to the breath. Breathe compassion to your challenges. Love & celebrate your life & make it sacred. Its your job (joy of being human). Follow your MOJOE – joy oxygen & ease.
