How often do you notice the hard voice in your head that’s chewing you up with anxiety, arguing with others and doubting you, repeating an old & exhausting story – also known as chatter? Are you enjoying it? (in that case, read no more-:) Can you stop it? How?
In my forty years of attempting meditation I have never succeeded to stop the chatter. But when I pay attention and become anchored in my heart & breath, I’m able to make space and have compassion for my chattering voice, move and even dance with it. It reminds me of what Ram Das said: “I used to have neurosis, now I have tea with them. -:)
In our BREAZE gathering yesterday, as we were meditating & opening our heart to the breath, we invited the chatter voice to speak up, and listened to it compassionately and without judgment. Telling the truth about our personal chatter made us realize that chatter is fueled by old hurt & fear, and bound by shame, hides it even from ourself. Yet when we feel safe & courageous enough to tell the truth about our chatter, the soul opens with fierce presence & deep graciousness. We meet our authentic Self.
